The bands drift left when you're flat, right when you're sharp, and freeze when you're exactly in tune.

How to read a strobe

Play a note and watch the three rows of bands. The top row moves fastest and shows coarse error; the bottom row shows the finest detail. Turn the peg until all rows stand still. For guitar intonation, compare the open string with the 12th-fret note: both should freeze the strobe.

FAQ

What is a strobe tuner?

A strobe tuner shows moving bands instead of a needle. The bands drift left when the note is flat and right when it is sharp, and stand still when you are exactly in tune. Their speed shows how far off you are.

Who uses strobe tuners?

Guitar techs setting intonation, piano and harp tuners, and anyone who wants to see errors smaller than a needle can show.
